This guide excerpt explains how to obtain the essential Pokétch device in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The key is to visit the president of Pokétch Co. in Jubilife City.
As mentioned in the guide’s introduction, the Pokétch is a device obtained in Jubilife City, the first major city visited in the main adventure of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. To acquire this key item, you must first speak with the president of Pokétch Co., located on the street next to the city’s Pokémon Center.
Once you speak with the president of Pokétch Co., you must participate in a search for three clowns wandering around Jubilife City. They will give you a special coupon if you answer their questions correctly. Don’t worry, the questions are very simple, and the answer is always affirmative (i.e., you must always answer “Yes”).
The locations of the 3 clowns in Jubilife City are as follows:
Clown No. 1: Located right in front of the city shop (behind the Pokémon Center).
Clown No. 2: In front of the Pokétch Co. building (technically the third one you encounter).
Clown No. 3: In front of the main door of Jubilife TV (technically the second one you encounter).
After collecting the 3 coupons from the clowns, you only need to return to the president of Pokétch Co. to receive your brand new device (it will be blue if your character is male and red if female).
The Pokétch has many great applications that are very helpful in our adventure. This device can be opened to have it minimized in a corner of the screen or expanded to full size to use specific features. By default, the Pokétch already has several standard functions available, while others will be obtained as the story progresses.
These are all the initial applications we can use on the Pokétch:
Clock: Used to see the current time.
Calculator: Can perform operations with up to 10 digits.
Pokémon Team: Shows the current status of our team.
Pedometer: Counts the steps we take in real-time (can be reset by pressing the button).
These are all the unlockable applications we can obtain for the Pokétch:
Hidden Machines (HMs): Allows you to call a wild Pokémon to perform a special move when needed (like Surf, Rock Smash, or Cut). Given by a hiker on the Desolate Path of Route 203.
Notepad: You can take notes or draw. Obtained at the Pokétch Co. headquarters by speaking with the president after winning the first badge.
Friendship Checker: Used to check the friendship level with your Pokémon. If two hearts appear when you touch a Pokémon, it means you have maximum friendship with it. Given by a woman in the Pokémon Center of Eterna City.
Dowsing Machine: Helps you find hidden items in different areas of Sinnoh. Obtained automatically as part of the adventure.
Egg Checker: Shows Pokémon being cared for at a Daycare and whether they have laid an Egg. Given by a man sitting in the Daycare of Solaceon Town after leaving your first pair of Pokémon there.
Pokémon History: Used to see the last Pokémon you have caught. Given by a man with a hat near the Pokémon Center of Solaceon Town if you have seen 50 Pokémon.
Counter: Indeed, used for counting. Obtained at the counter on the first floor of the Veilstone Department Store.
Analog Clock: Indicates the current time. Given by a man in one of the houses in Celestic Town.
Marking Map: Shows a map of Sinnoh with your current location. You can use 6 markers on it and it also shows the position of Mesprit and Cresselia when they are in the world. Given by the president of Pokétch Co. if you speak with him after obtaining three badges.
Coin Toss: You can flip a coin to see heads or tails. Given by a man in a house at the Lakefront Hotel on Route 213, reachable using Rock Climb.
Calendar: Shows a calendar with the current day and date. Given by a man if you show him a Pokémon with a serious nature, located in a house next to the Munchlax Rock in Canalave City (reachable using Rock Climb).
Pixel Artist: Allows you to create designs with pixels of various shades. Given by the same man who gives you the previous application.
