A Ring Adorned with a Pink Diamond, Estimated at $20 Million

This ring, adorned with a pink diamond and offered by Sotheby’s, is estimated at $20 million.
Attention, maximum emotion for diamond fans: the auction house Sotheby’s has just revealed the upcoming auction of a ring adorned with a pink diamond named “The Glowing Rose.” Following the sensational sale of the blue diamond “The Mediterranean Blue,” which went for no less than $21.5 million last May, it is now the turn of this extraordinary gem to excite the jewelry world. Indeed, the jewel is estimated at $20 million – and an estimate can often be exceeded.

“The Glowing Rose” weighs 10.08 carats. Of Fancy Vivid Pink color, it is estimated at $20 million.

And yet, this diamond has no history, is not linked to a particular dynasty, nor to a royal lineage. No Windsor legend, no Vanderbilt aura… Originating from a 21-carat rough extracted in 2023, it is primarily its exceptional quality that explains this sky-high price. Perfectly cut, now weighing precisely 10.08 carats, this diamond is of Fancy Vivid Pink color, one of the rarest among colored diamonds.

Let us recall that less than 0.01% of diamonds are colored diamonds, and among these, variations around red (and therefore pink) are among the rarest: they constitute only 0.0001% of the global diamond supply. Jewelry houses reserve them for their EIC (“Extraordinary Important Client”), to whom they offer custom creation services around loose stones. The jeweler Graff has also discreetly handled some of these extremely rare gems in the privacy of its salons and workshops, including the world’s largest blue diamond, the “Imperial Blue,” purchased in 1984.

The Price of the Ultra-Rare? Tens of Millions of Dollars

This explains why “The Glowing Rose” is a newcomer in the very exclusive club of such diamonds recently brought to market: the Williamson Pink Star (11.15 carats) sold at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2022 for $57.7 million, or the Eternal Pink (10.57 carats) sold at Sotheby’s New York in 2023 for $34.8 million. For this sale organized on November 12th in Geneva, it is the historic English jeweler Boodles, whose history dates back to the 18th century, that was entrusted with setting this pink diamond into a ring. This delighted its Managing Director, Jody Wainwright, who stated:

“Boodles is delighted to partner with Sotheby’s to bring its distinctive design and refined setting to this spectacular and exceptional vivid pink diamond.”

The artisans of the British house imagined a geometric star-shaped pattern on the setting, set with pink diamonds, and a platinum ring set with baguette-cut white diamonds.

Like all precious stones of this caliber, “The Glowing Rose” will have a rock-star tour before being presented in Switzerland: it will be in Singapore on October 17th and 18th, then in Taipei the following week, before returning to Europe where it may be about to break all records…
