The “Bleu Royal,” a rare blue diamond, has set a new benchmark, fetching a staggering 39.5 million Swiss francs at a Christie’s Geneva auction. This sale underscores the enduring allure and exceptional value of the world’s most unique gemstones.
A very rare blue diamond known as the “Bleu Royal” was sold on November 7 at a Christie’s auction in Geneva, Switzerland, for 39.505 million Swiss francs (approximately 6.6 billion yen), including taxes and fees.
The Bleu Royal weighs 17.61 carats. It is cut in a pear shape and set in a ring. It is the largest Internally Flawless (IF) blue diamond ever to appear at auction.
It had been held in a private collection for decades and was offered for sale for the first time.
At the auction, three bidders competed for seven minutes before it was won by an anonymous private collector.
According to Max Fawcett, head of Christie’s jewelry department in Geneva, the price per carat was nearly $2.5 million (approximately 380 million yen).
