Financial Performance

Spanish light luxury jewelry brand TOUS’s latest financial report reveals that, benefiting from growth in both its domestic and global markets and the continued strong performance of its e-commerce channel, its sales for the 2016 fiscal year grew by 9.4% year-on-year to €401 million.

As of the end of 2016, TOUS achieved:
– Domestic market sales grew by 6% year-on-year;
– Global market sales grew by 10% year-on-year;
– E-commerce channel sales grew by 130% year-on-year.

Founded in 1920 in Manresa, Spain, by the Tous family, the brand started with jewelry. In recent years, TOUS has successfully transformed into a lifestyle brand. In addition to jewelry, it now sells watches, leather goods, perfumes, eyewear, and other accessories. In the 2016 fiscal year, jewelry sales accounted for 67% of the brand’s total sales, followed by bags and accessories, which contributed 16% of sales.

Store Channel

TOUS is further accelerating its international expansion, opening 50 new stores in existing markets and establishing stores in two newly entered markets: Mexico and Qatar.

TOUS indicated that the key Chinese market performed in line with expectations in the 2016 fiscal year. Currently, the brand has 15 stores in China and plans to open two flagship stores in Shanghai in the first quarter of the 2017 fiscal year.

The brand has also introduced its flagship store concept in large-scale stores at locations such as Via Frattina in Rome, Masaruk in Mexico City, Dubai Mall in the UAE, and Westfield World Trade Center in New York.

In its domestic market, TOUS has opened new stores on Calle Serrano and Gran Via in Madrid, and on Paseo de Gracia in Barcelona.

E-commerce Channel

Over the past two years, TOUS’s e-commerce performance has been particularly outstanding, with an 80% year-on-year growth in the 2015 fiscal year and 130% in 2016. Including newly added markets like Poland, Russia, and Greece, the brand has now launched e-commerce operations in 10 countries globally.

“We are very pleased with the success of e-commerce in the global market, especially in Spain. Today, e-commerce contributes over 40% of the company’s sales, which motivates us to continue striving to provide customers with the best shopping experience.”

The brand stated that it will continue to focus on increasing sales through tourism retail channels in the future. In 2016, TOUS opened a new store at Terminal 2 of Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. In 2015, the brand opened stores at international airports in Malaga, Panama, and Barcelona.
