【Madrid, Spai】Gleaming Gold and Pearls for the Queen of Spain and the Princess of Monaco

Editor’s Note

This article highlights the elegant diplomacy on display as Spanish and Monegasque royals gathered in Madrid to mark 150 years of bilateral ties, with notable attention to their refined attire and jewelry.

On Monday, royals from Spain and Monaco met in Madrid to celebrate 150 years of diplomatic ties, with both Queen Letizia and Princess Charlene wearing cool daywear and interesting jewels for the occasion.

Royal Gathering in Madrid

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain welcomed Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco to Madrid on Monday for a special celebration of the diplomatic relationship between their countries. During the visit, the couples toured the Royal Botanical Gardens and viewed a pair of exhibitions coordinated by the Embassy of Monaco in Spain.
The two sovereigns both wore business attire for the occasion, while their spouses opted for cool summer day dresses in shades of blue and white. Both Charlene and Letizia both also carried fans—very necessary for the hot weather in Madrid this week.

Queen Letizia’s Jewelry and Attire

Queen Letizia repeated a dress we first saw her wear last summer. The white linen and cotton dress, which has an asymmetrical hem detail, comes from the Italian brand Mantù. Letizia wore it last August for the closing gala of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest in Palma.
For both last year’s film festival and this week’s Monegasque visit, Letizia accessorized with a unique suite of gold-plated jewelry. She wore the earrings and the bracelet from the Acacia collection by Suma Cruz, which are autumnally inspired.
Letizia’s only other jewel, as usual, was her Coreterno ring, worn on the index finger of her left hand. The ring features text from the final line of Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Princess Charlene’s Jewelry and Attire

Princess Charlene opted for a floral guipure lace dress in an elegant shade of light blue, made by Oscar de la Renta. You can see details up close here in another colorway.
Her only major accessories for the day were her Repossi diamond engagement ring and a pair of classic diamond and pearl drop earrings.
Here’s a slightly better look at the earrings, which feature a diamond cluster stud and a round white pearl drop. We’ve seen Charlene wear these on a previous occasion: for her visit to the Joya International Jewellery Fair in Monaco in November.
