Chanel makes a move in jewelry. The French company, the largest independent luxury brand in the world, has appointed the former head of jewelry and watchmaking creation at Cartier as the new head of Chanel’s jewelry creation studio. Her incorporation comes to strengthen one of the most strategic categories for the firm in the midst of a new stage of growth and creative renewal.
The creative director will assume responsibility for Chanel’s jewelry and high jewelry collections starting in October of this year. With more than two decades of experience in the industry, Cérède has held senior positions in some of the leading luxury jewelry companies. Prior to joining Chanel, she led the jewelry creation and watchmaking departments at Cartier, where she drove and developed the growth of Cartier’s most iconic lines, as well as heading the jewelry creative direction of Harry Winston.
The executive will take over from Patrice Leguéreau, who led Chanel’s jewelry creation studio for fifteen years until his death in November 2024.

Marie-Laure Cérède will bring a new perspective to the Chanel codes

This move comes in a favorable context for Chanel. The company closed 2025 with sales of $19.269 billion, 3% more than the previous year, leaving behind the setback of 2024. An improvement that also coincides with the beginning of the new creative stage led by Matthieu Blazy, who debuted last September.
Jewelry continues to be one of the most solid categories within the luxury industry, despite the general slowdown experienced by the sector in recent years. Chanel has been operating in this segment since 1993 and reinforced its commitment to fine jewelry in 2001.

“Marie-Laure Cérède is one of the most talented and experienced creative directors of her generation,” said Alain Wertheimer, president of Chanel, and Leena Nair, CEO of the company.

Fréderic Grangié, Chanel’s head of watches and jewelry, said that her vision “will bring a new perspective to the Chanel codes”.

The company, owned by the Wertheimer family, maintains a strong financial position and continues to invest in product, real estate and brand development for the long term.
