SMX (Security Matters) has announced a collaborative initiative with FinGo and the Bougainville Refinery to launch a gold-traceability program in Bougainville. This initiative aims to establish responsible sourcing standards for gold from the region.
The program will utilize SMX’s proprietary technology to embed a chemical-based marker into gold at the point of origin. This marker allows for the verification of the gold’s provenance, ethical sourcing, and compliance with environmental and social standards throughout the supply chain. The primary goal is to combat illicit gold trade and ensure that gold from Bougainville meets international responsible sourcing criteria, thereby increasing its market value and appeal to conscientious consumers and investors.
FinGo will contribute its expertise in financial technology and supply chain integration, while the Bougainville Refinery will serve as the key local partner for processing and implementing the traceability protocol. This partnership is seen as a critical step towards formalizing and legitimizing Bougainville’s gold mining sector.
