This report details a significant geological discovery by De Beers and Endiama in Angola—the first new kimberlite pipe found by De Beers in over three decades. While the announcement marks a major milestone for the partnership and the region’s mining sector, the commercial viability and full scale of the deposit are yet to be determined through further assessment.

London, UK – August 26, 2025 – De Beers Group and Angola’s state-owned diamond company Endiama announced on August 12th a significant breakthrough in their joint exploration efforts in Angola, successfully discovering a kimberlite pipe rich in natural diamonds. This milestone event marks De Beers Group’s first discovery of a completely new kimberlite deposit in over thirty years.

In July 2025, the joint venture project successfully intercepted a kimberlite layer during its first phase of drilling. This drilling target was part of a high-priority target cluster identified by an airborne geophysical survey completed in March 2025. In the coming months, De Beers Group and Endiama will conduct further drilling, ground geophysical surveys, and laboratory analysis to determine the kimberlite type and assess its diamond-bearing potential.
This successful exploration is based on two “Mineral Investment Contracts” signed between De Beers Group and the Angolan government in April 2022, as well as a “Cooperation Memorandum” signed at the Mining Indaba in South Africa in February 2024. These agreements underscore the long-term commitment of both parties to the responsible development of Angola’s rich natural diamond resources.
