**Editor’s Note:** This article highlights the Arezzo Mineral Expo, a premier event in Central Italy for mineralogy and paleontology enthusiasts. Featuring exhibitors from Italy and abroad, the fair showcases collection minerals, fossils, gemstones, and handcrafted jewelry, complemented by a scientific and educational program.
Arezzo Mineral Expo confirms itself as one of the reference events in Central Italy dedicated to the world of mineralogy and paleontology. The fair will host exhibitors from all over Italy and abroad, offering collection minerals, fossils, rough and cut gemstones, crystals, and shells, alongside a selection of handcrafted jewelry and costume jewelry made with natural stones.
Alongside the exhibition area, the program features a detailed scientific and educational outreach path. Among the most significant contents is the educational exhibition “The Colors of Minerals,” curated by the Natural History Museum of Rosignano Marittima, dedicated to the physical and chemical mechanisms that determine mineral coloration. There will also be a thematic exhibition on the Copper of Anghiari, exploring the historical and mineralogical value of this metal in the region, and an exhibition of aesthetically significant minerals from around the world, curated by MCP, a Milan-based company specializing in the selection and enhancement of high-quality mineral specimens internationally.
Conferences by industry experts are also scheduled, including “The Mechanisms of Color in Minerals” with Alessandro Lenzi, “Color, Truth or Mirage – The Secret Charm of Fluorescence” by Massimo Batoni, “Magnifying Glass and Use of the Stereoscopic Microscope” with Massimo Roncati from E.D. Elettronica Didattica, and “Amber: The Biology of Prehistoric Insects,” a conference dedicated to the study of fossil inclusions by Maurizio D’Isanto (Maurizio Woodland).
Ample space will also be dedicated to practical workshops, designed to introduce the public to techniques used by scientists. These include a workshop on amber curated by Amber Fossil Collection and one on fossil preparation, led by Giancarlo Premoli, who will illustrate the fundamental stages of a preparator’s work: from the controlled removal of the rock matrix to the cleaning of specimens, up to highlighting fossil structures, using manual tools and professional techniques. These activities are designed for a broad audience, suitable for all ages and especially for young people, who can approach scientific work in a direct and informed way. An opportunity to understand how fossils are recovered, preserved, and enhanced before being studied or exhibited to the public.
Completing the offering are mineral workshops dedicated to chemical and physical properties, with hardness tests, specific gravity, microscope observation, and fluorescence, a workshop for young people curated by Tullio Parise.
Simultaneously, Arezzo Ludica will bring a large area dedicated to intelligent and creative gaming to the fair, with board games, tournaments, modeling, construction sets, retro games, and demonstration spaces. There will also be numerous sales stalls with collectible cards, comics, collectible games, vintage material, modeling items, and articles related to the world of gaming and pop culture.
Particular attention will be given to families and children, thanks to dedicated spaces and the presence of friends from the Club del Mattoncino, with free LEGO play and timed challenges, designed to engage the little ones in a creative and fun way.
The gaming program will be enriched by activities proposed by Battle for Vilegis, the largest event in Italy dedicated to live-action role-playing, with a LARP sword arena, LARP archery, soft air target shooting, and live duel demonstrations, designed to involve the public in dynamic and immersive experiences. There will also be face painting activities and the presence of cosplayers, who will help animate the entire event.
An event that combines science, education, gaming, and entertainment, transforming Arezzo Fiere e Congressi into a lively and shared space, capable of speaking to diverse audiences and enhancing knowledge through direct experience.
