This article reports on Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s reconstitution of key parliamentary committees, including the reappointment of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as chairman of the committee on external affairs.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reconstituted several parliamentary committees. Om Birla has reappointed Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as the chairman of the parliamentary committee related to foreign affairs.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya was appointed chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to examine the Jan Vishwas Bill on Wednesday (October 1, 2025). During this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reconstituted several such committees.

Apart from Tejasvi Surya, Lok Sabha Speaker has appointed BJP leader Baijayant Panda as the chairman of the select committee formed to consider the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill. Along with them, almost all chairpersons of department-related parliamentary committees, including Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, have been renominated to their respective positions.
The appointment of Tejasvi Surya, Lok Sabha member from Bangalore South, Karnataka, as the chairman of the select committee related to the ‘Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill’ is being seen as an expression of confidence in this young leader by the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat informed in this regard that BJP leaders Nishikant Dubey and Bhartruhari Mahtab will remain chairmen of the Parliamentary Standing Committees on Communications and Information Technology and Finance, respectively. Additionally, DMK leader Kanimozhi will be the chairperson of the committee on consumer affairs, food, and public distribution.
Under the reconstitution of committees, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reappointed Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram and senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor as the chairman of the parliamentary committee related to foreign affairs. Along with this, former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi has been reappointed as the chairman of the committee on agriculture.

Amidst all this, the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to consider three bills of the Union Home Ministry, including the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, is still pending.
