This article reports on the record-breaking auction of the 15.10-carat ‘De Beers Cullinan Blue,’ the largest blue diamond ever offered at auction. The final sale price underscores the enduring rarity and immense value of the world’s most exceptional gemstones.

The world’s largest blue diamond has been sold at auction for a final price of 73.2 billion won.

On the 28th (local time), CNN reported that the global auction house Sotheby’s announced the previous day in Hong Kong that the 15.10-carat ‘De Beers Cullinan Blue’ diamond was sold for 450,925,000 Hong Kong dollars (approximately 73.2 billion won).
According to the report, this diamond, discovered last year at the Cullinan mine in South Africa, is recorded as the world’s largest blue diamond.

The ‘De Beers Cullinan Blue’ received the highest color grade for colored diamonds, ‘Fancy Vivid Blue’, from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This is a grade that less than 1% of blue diamonds submitted to the institute receive.
In this auction, the final hammer price was determined after four participants competed for eight minutes. The final sale price far exceeded the initial estimate of 28 million dollars (approximately 61.1 billion won).
