【Parma, Italy】Luxury Packaging: More Sustainable with Thermoformed Cellulose Instead of Plastic

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** This article highlights the strategic collaboration between Fedrigoni and Tecnoform, resulting in a new venture aimed at transforming high-end perfume and cosmetics packaging by shifting from plastic to cellulose-based materials.

From Plastic to Cellulose

With over 130 years of history, Fedrigoni is a true European excellence in the field of special papers for packaging (particularly for luxury products), graphics, and labeling. Tecnoform, a company founded in 1977 in Colorno (Parma), specializes in the production of thermoformed plastic packaging for the food, fashion, and cosmetics sectors.
It is precisely to this latter sector, especially high-end perfumes and cosmetics, that the NewCo will initially target. This is a spin-off of Tecnoform’s business dedicated to the development of innovative packaging products, capable of replacing plastic with thermoformed cellulose through proprietary technology.
The range of applications is very broad and varied, from luxury goods to technology, from jewelry to watches, to food and e-commerce packaging. Fedrigoni aims to expand this business to reach a turnover of 25 million euros in the next 2-3 years.

A New Luxury Packaging
“The agreement with Tecnoform is a new milestone in our innovation journey to offer the market increasingly high-performance paper-based alternatives to plastic. – comments Marco Nespolo, CEO of the Fedrigoni Group – The luxury packaging sector is very important to us, and we believe we can make a difference in steering it, globally, towards environmentally friendly solutions, thanks to the know-how acquired so far, the synergies with other activities in our ecosystem, and the possibility of globalizing the business, expanding it from Europe to America and Asia.”
“We see great complementarity between our two companies,” adds Alessandro Groppi, CEO of Tecnoform. “Fedrigoni’s deep experience in the luxury packaging sector, its knowledge of processes and manufacturing, as well as its global scale, will be decisive in helping us develop unprecedented and highly innovative solutions.”
