The judge investigating José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for the Plus Ultra rescue now has in hand the expert appraisal commissioned from the jewelry house Ansorena regarding the jewelry found in the former prime minister’s safe, which is valued at 1,300,000 euros.
The value of the former president’s hoard has led Judge Calama to open a separate investigation for possible tax and smuggling offenses. Meanwhile, the Ansorena appraisal details, according to the document accessed by LD, the characteristics of the pieces the president had amassed.
Among pieces of no value, “imitation” pearls, and earrings appraised at just 25 euros, Zapatero kept jewelry such as a spectacular necklace valued at 228,000 euros, made of 18-karat white gold “with thirteen main pear-cut sapphires” of “Thai origin” accompanied by diamonds. The jewelry house describes a “delicate openwork botanical design.”
Another necklace has an estimated value of 278,000 euros and is crafted with brilliant-cut diamonds and two natural emeralds of “Zambian origin.”

Among the pieces, there is one valued at 155,000 euros with diamonds and a “central cascade motif with five oval-cut natural rubies treated with lead glass.”
There are also valuable bracelets: among them, one in white gold with seven sapphires also from Thailand, “according to a certificate from the Spanish Gemological Institute.” They are accompanied, it adds, by openwork botanical motifs “studded with diamonds.” The estimated price is 80,000 euros.
Among watches of little value, such as a steel Dogma for one hundred euros and a Kronos for only 50, and costume jewelry of no value, like earrings “of plated metal and imitation pearls,” there are rings worth tens of thousands of euros, such as a white gold ring “with a central natural emerald” of Zambian origin “crowned by a botanical motif studded with brilliant-cut diamonds” valued at 85,000 euros.
In the safe there were two “Holy Family crosses,” worth 50 and 100 euros, several imitation pearl necklaces, a “metal pin,” cufflinks “of no value,” or a silver ring mixed with family jewelry such as a gold pin with the name Alba, one of Zapatero’s daughters. There is also a gold chain “with a gold blood type plate” valued at 2,480 euros.
Among these pieces, there are rings and earrings of great value, such as a pair of white gold earrings with eight Thai sapphires accompanied by diamonds, priced at 70,000 euros.
