Overview of Shuibei Village
Shuibei Village in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, is home to over 2,000 jewelry enterprises, 1,000 individually-owned jewelry businesses, and 20 jewelry trading centers within an area of 1.1 million square meters. This cluster generates more than 70 percent of China’s annual jewelry trade volume.
Security and Operations
Luo Sheng, a factory employee in the village, noted:
“When you see people carrying a black bag, it might have gold bars in it. People don’t need to worry, because the public security here is sound. There are surveillance cameras every 20 meters, and policemen are patrolling the streets.”
The gold is manufactured in Shenzhen’s jewelry enterprises and factories, and then sold worldwide.
Production and Customization
Huang Haiyun, a jewelry factory manager, explained:
“More than a dozen technological and examination procedures are needed for a final product. The factory can also offer exclusive and personalized services, producing jewelry according to a customer’s design, and then transport the final product across the country the next day.”
