Obituary

After a short, severe illness, Senior Boss Gerhard H. Leicht passed away on July 7, 2017, surrounded by his family.

His passionate love for his profession and his cosmopolitan outlook shaped his employees and laid the foundation for the company’s success. With open humanity, curiosity, infectious humor, and love, he discovered and helped shape the world.

Gerhard Leicht was born in 1936 as the son of a teacher and was initially expected to become a teacher himself. However, he discovered his passion for gemstones early on and founded his own jewelry wholesale business at the age of 25, which he built and developed together with his wife Rita. He opened his first jewelry store in 1972, and the first “floating” branch followed in 1976 on the cruise ship MS EUROPA. In 1990, Gerhard Leicht’s eldest son Georg and his wife Silke joined the company, and today Juwelier Leicht is present at ten exclusive locations.

Awards and Legacy

With pioneering spirit and passion for beautiful stones, Gerhard Leicht won the “Oscar” for jewelers in 1996: the De Beers Diamonds International Award. Until the very end, the agile entrepreneur remained actively involved in the company, overseeing the atelier, managing gemstone purchases, and accompanying exclusive customer trips for Juwelier Leicht – with his wife Rita always by his side.

The family and employees mourn the great loss and remember him with gratitude, aware that he leaves behind a void that cannot be filled.
