Gemstone designer Bernd Munsteiner died on June 6 after a short, severe illness. Born on March 2, 1943, and living and working in Stipshausen (Birkenfeld district), the artist is not only regarded as a pioneer of contemporary gemstone cutting of worldwide significance. Rather, he reinterpreted the world of colored and lucid crystals as an object beyond craft tradition and opened it up for contemporary art. With his work, he provided artistic impulses to generations of gemstone and jewelry designers, and he himself won numerous prizes, awards, and honors.
