【Ulm, Germany】Under a New Flag: Dorotheum Takes Over Ehinger Schwarz 1876

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Ehinger Schwarz 1876, a traditional jewelry manufacturer with over 140 years of history, has been acquired by Dorotheum, a subsidiary of the Austrian Dorotheum Group. The takeover, completed at the start of the year, prevents the company’s threatened closure and opens new avenues for the brand’s future.

Acquisition and Survival

The traditional jewelry manufacturer Ehinger Schwarz 1876 has a new owner: At the beginning of the year, the company was acquired by Ehinger Schwarz by Dorotheum, a subsidiary of the Austrian Dorotheum Group. This takeover not only prevents the company’s threatened closure but also opens new perspectives for the future of the brand, which has stood for exquisite jewelry pieces for over 140 years.

The acquisition by Dorotheum marks a significant turning point for Ehinger Schwarz. After the closure of nine branches and a total sell-off were considered in May 2023, the company can now breathe a sigh of relief.

“Everything stays different” – this is the motto of the re-opening campaign, which highlights the successful combination of proven values and fresh impulses.

The eight branches, which will continue to operate under the well-known name, will remain with familiar faces on the team, and the high quality of jewelry design as well as the valued customer service will remain unchanged.

New Leadership

The new managing director, Karin Saey, who has over 20 years of experience in retail at Dorotheum, will steer the company’s fortunes together with the previous managing director, Sina Geyer, who will continue to lead operational business as a procurator. This combination of experience and fresh impetus promises to lead the Ehinger Schwarz brand into an innovative and sustainable future.

Looking to the Future

The takeover brings not only stability but also a strategic strengthening for the company. Through access to the resources and expertise of the Dorotheum Group, Ehinger Schwarz will be able to offer new brand collections that will be exclusively available in Germany only at Ehinger Schwarz. This expansion of the range will not only appeal to existing customers but also attract new target groups.

The planned upgrade of the popular Charlotte brand over the course of the year shows that the company is ready to adapt to current customer needs while preserving tradition. The combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern design demands will further strengthen the brand and position it in the highly competitive jewelry market. The redesigned branches are already open for jewelry lovers.
