What world-renowned diamond cutter Lazare Kaplan idealized was a diamond that shines in seven colors, created by the Ideal Make. The praise given to “The World’s Most Beautiful Diamond(R)” and its rare brilliance is the pride of “Lazare Diamond,” known as one of the world’s three major cutter brands. Handling only conflict-free diamonds, its brilliance, polished by over 100 years of history and New York’s sophisticated aesthetic, is chosen by those who know the real thing.

Born in 1883 as the third generation of a jewelry merchant, Lazare Kaplan was recognized as an excellent diamond cutter at a young age in Antwerp, Belgium, and became independent at 20. He later moved to New York, USA, and devoted his life to the pursuit of “The World’s Most Beautiful Diamond(R).” In 1919, based on the theory of his cousin, mathematician Marcel Tolkowsky, he realized the perfect proportion “Ideal Make” through cutting, which makes diamonds shine in seven colors. This ideal and luxurious cutting remains the strict brand identity of Lazare Diamond even a century later. In 1935, he was entrusted by renowned jeweler Harry Winston with cutting the 726-carat Jonker diamond rough, achieving this feat over a year. Already called the “Magician of Cutting,” Lazare Kaplan also contributed to the proper evaluation of diamond beauty and value, human resource development, and technological advancement. He advocated the importance of cutting for diamond brilliance and greatly contributed to the establishment of the 4Cs in US appraisal institutions. Due to his sublime aesthetic sense and numerous achievements that led the industry, Lazare Kaplan became a legend and is still praised as “Mr. Diamond.”
The supreme brilliance of “The World’s Most Beautiful Diamond(R),” which leaves no room for comparison, can only be achieved by excelling in every process. Lazare Diamond oversees everything from rough sourcing to cutting and polishing in-house. It is a rare diamond cutter brand globally. Rough diamonds are carefully selected, focusing on the naturally beautiful octahedron. They are cut into the luxurious “Ideal Make” proportion, prioritizing the essential beauty of diamonds—brilliance—over carat weight. Through meticulous attention in every process, including hand polishing by skilled craftsmen, overwhelming brilliance is brought out. The laser engraving of ID numbers, now a proof of high-quality diamonds, is also the world’s first technology co-developed by Lazare Diamond. Compromising on nothing, aiming for even greater heights—these are our pride inherited from founder Lazare Kaplan, and the truth of the seven-colored shining diamond.
