The golden age of Royal Warrants was undoubtedly that of Queen Elizabeth, at least from a fashion perspective, because the list of royal seal holders included names like Burberry, Barbour, Hunter, and Pringle of Scotland, brands that produced clothing and accessories accessible to us common mortals.

Upon Queen Elizabeth’s death, the burden and honor of managing the Royal Warrant issue passed to King Charles. As mentioned above, the monarch not only approves his preferred suppliers but also decides who within the royal family can grant royal warrants. If during Elizabeth II’s reign the grantors were Prince Philip, then-Prince Charles, and in remote times the Queen Mother, the sovereign has now extended this ‘superpower’ to his wife Camilla, his son William, and also Kate Middleton. When the news spread, the announcement generated great interest not only because whatever the royal touches turns to gold but also because it had been over a hundred years since a Princess of Wales had this authority: before her, it was Mary of Teck, the future Queen Mary. To be clear, Princess Diana was never a grantor, despite still exerting great influence over the brands she chose, almost thirty years after her passing.

Her Majesty has operated with transparency in granting royal mandates and, judging by what we read, without fearing ghosts, neither those of the past nor those of the present.

Queen Camilla, officially seated on the throne for three years and a few days, is defining the address book she turns to for her needs. Alongside florists, renowned tea retailers, wine cellars, and stationery products, the list drawn up by the royal also cannot miss clothing and accessories brands, tailors, and jewelers.

Among the jewelers, the list includes names like Cartier, Garrard, and Collingwood, brands historically linked to the royal family and also favored by Princess Diana and Kate Middleton. These houses are known for their exquisite craftsmanship and timeless designs, often featuring precious gemstones and intricate metalwork.

While the list for King Charles and Queen Camilla has been published, the warrants for the Prince and Princess of Wales are still pending. Given Kate Middleton’s status as a grantor, her future list is highly anticipated and expected to include many of her favorite fashion and jewelry brands.
