【Iksan, South】Jewelry Industry Promotion Act Passes Parliamentary Committee… Iksan City to Discover National Projects

Editor’s Note

Iksan, with its strong manufacturing and research base, is poised to be the primary beneficiary of the newly passed national jewelry industry promotion law.

Iksan, with its manufacturing and research foundation, is expected to be the biggest beneficiary.

Legislative Milestone

[Iksan=Newsis] The jewelry industry, a key economic driver for Iksan City in North Jeolla Province, has secured a foothold for a global leap forward with the establishment of a national-level promotion law.

According to the city on the 4th, the ‘Act on the Foundation and Promotion of the Jewelry Industry,’ which provides a systematic basis for fostering the domestic jewelry industry, has passed the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs, and Startups Committee.

This bill is the first independent promotion law covering the entire industry. It is expected to overcome the limitations of national budget support.

The passed bill specifies the fostering responsibilities of the state and local governments and includes comprehensive national support measures such as:

  • Establishing a basic promotion plan
  • Training professional personnel
  • Supporting startups, manufacturing, and technology development
  • Supporting overseas market entry
Iksan’s Strategic Advantage

Iksan City, which boasts unparalleled infrastructure including the nation’s only Gem Museum and a Fashion Jewelry Joint R&D Center, is expected to be the biggest beneficiary of this legislation. Once the bill finally passes the plenary session, the city plans to discover large-scale new national projects linked to national plans.

The city has begun establishing preemptive strategies to secure government projects, including attracting a ‘National Designated Jewelry Industry Promotion Complex,’ securing professional training programs, and utilizing international accredited testing institutions for quality certification projects.

“This committee passage is a significant turning point where the jewelry industry is recognized as a key national growth engine,” said Iksan Mayor Jeong Heon-yul. “We will mobilize all of Iksan’s accumulated manufacturing base and R&D capabilities to preempt government policies and develop it into a K-Jewelry hub city that attracts global attention.”
