Inspired by the force of volcanoes and the mineral wealth of Arequipa, the exhibition “The Art of the Volcano: Arequipa Author Jewelry” at the Andrés del Castillo Mineral Museum brings together a notable collection of handmade jewelry that blends tradition, innovation, and identity, highlighting the talent and creativity of the region’s jewelers. The exhibition will be open to the public until July 31, with free admission from Monday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The exhibition’s name refers to Arequipa’s geological origin and the close relationship between its minerals, craftsmanship, and contemporary design—elements that inspired each of the pieces on display.
The collection presents works created using techniques such as stone setting, metallic thread weaving, and the fusion of silver with minerals and sillar, while also incorporating references to Arequipa’s identity. The pieces were created by artists Lía Pino Mestas, María Elena Abella Medina, Roxana Alcázar Casapia, Carla Villanueva Chávez, Ernesto Málaga Ancco, Giovanna Escobedo Vela, Jaime Peña Farfán, Vielka Martínez Arróspide, and Julio Feria Antachoque, who express their creativity and technical mastery in contemporary jewelry that reflects the region’s cultural richness.
The exhibition highlights the work of creators collaborating with CITE Arequipa in innovation processes, design development, and productive strengthening, helping to consolidate Arequipa jewelry as a contemporary expression of luxury, identity, and the cultural heritage of Arequipa and Peru.
The Andrés del Castillo Mineral Museum, recognized for housing one of the most important mineralogical collections in Latin America, becomes the ideal setting for this proposal, where jewelry dialogues with the origin of the materials that gave them life, creating an experience that connects nature, art, and artisanal excellence. As part of the program, guided tours will be led by Peruvian designer José Miguel Valdivia, offering attendees a deeper look into the creative process and artistic value of each piece.
With this proposal, “The Art of the Volcano” invites the public, collectors, designers, specialists, and art lovers to discover a new vision of Peruvian jewelry: an expression born from the fire of the earth and transformed into a symbol of creativity, elegance, and authenticity.
