Farrukhabad News: Lightweight Jewelry Gains Shine, Customers Shy Away from Heavy Ornaments

Farrukhabad. The continuous fluctuations in gold and silver prices are now clearly impacting the local jewelry market. In the city’s jewelry markets on Railway Road, Nehru Road, and Kotwali Road in Fatehgarh, customers are increasingly preferring lightweight and modern-design ornaments over traditional heavy-weight pieces. Jewelers are also commissioning designs that appear heavy and attractive but use less metal.

On Thursday, July 16, the market price of 24-carat gold stood at ₹1,45,600 per 10 grams, and silver at ₹2,250 per 10 grams. Traders say that due to price hikes and uncertainty, customers want to make purchases within their budgets.

“Earlier, people used to buy heavy necklaces, bangles, and bracelets for weddings, but now most customers are demanding attractive designs with lower weight,” said Manoj Rastogi, a jeweler on Nehru Road and president of the Sarafa Association.
“Seeing the market demand, jewelry manufacturers are also creating designs that look heavy but have much less weight. This gives customers better options at lower prices,” said Mudit Tandon, a jeweler on Nehru Road.

Shalini Tandon, a resident of Mohalla Khatrana, said that given the rising gold prices, she bought a lightweight necklace and earring set instead of a heavy necklace this time. This kept her budget intact while meeting her needs.

Pratibha Pathak, a resident of Civil Lines, said that utility is important along with investment. Lightweight jewelry is convenient for daily wear and relatively cheaper.
