【India】Aukera’s Big Bet: Raises ₹90 Crore for Lab-Grown Diamond Store Expansion

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Aukera, a prominent Indian lab-grown diamond jewelry retailer, has secured ₹90 crore in funding led by Alteria Capital. The capital will fuel store expansion, product innovation, and omnichannel growth.

Aukera’s New Flight of Expansion

India’s renowned jewelry retailer Aukera has raised ₹90 crore in funding to rapidly expand its stores. This round was led by Alteria Capital. The funding will help the company open new stores, enhance product design, and drive online-offline growth.

Lab-grown diamond jewelry maker Aukera announced on Friday that it has raised ₹90 crore in a new funding round. The investment includes participation from Alteria Capital, along with InnoVen Capital, Lighthouse Canton, and a major banking partner. This funding comes after the company completed a $15 million equity round last year, reflecting investor interest in India’s lab-grown diamond segment.

Focus on Store Expansion

The company’s primary goal is to use this capital to increase its physical store count across India. Since its launch in 2023, Aukera has rapidly expanded its operations, growing from 13 stores to 35 company-owned outlets. Previously, the company focused on growth in major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad, but now plans to expand into cities such as Pune, Lucknow, Dehradun, and Visakhapatnam.

Strategy and Market Dynamics

Beyond opening new stores, the company will also focus on product innovation, design, and strengthening its digital and physical sales channels. The company’s Founder and CEO, Lisa Mukhedkar, said:

“This funding is raised to rapidly expand into more cities to meet growing demand.”

Management has previously stated that a long-term investment of over ₹1,000 crore may be needed to achieve a leading position in this niche segment.

Consumer preferences in the lab-grown diamond sector are shifting, as these stones are positioned as a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to natural diamonds. However, competition in the jewelry industry is intense, and the value of lab-grown diamonds could face pressure due to rising global production capacity and falling wholesale prices. For investors, it will be crucial to see how Aukera balances aggressive retail expansion with profitability, especially as the company increases fixed costs through more company-owned stores.

Since Aukera is a private company, this funding will not have a direct impact on the stock market. However, its expansion provides important insights into the growth strategy of India’s large organized jewelry retail sector. For investors in listed jewelry stocks like Titan Company or Kalyan Jewellers, it is important to understand whether the growing popularity of lab-grown diamonds is affecting demand for traditional mined diamond jewelry.
