Major BIS Action in Nagaur: Gold and Records Seized from Hallmarking Center

A 12-member team from Jaipur conducted a raid on a hallmarking center. The entire jewelry market was thrown into chaos upon receiving the news.

Nagaur: On Monday, a team from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a major operation at a hallmarking center in the Bazarwada area of the city. The 12-member team, which arrived from Jaipur, carried out an intensive inspection of the center for approximately four hours. During this time, documents, computer records, machines, and other materials related to hallmarking were scrutinized. Following the operation, the team took away several important documents and some gold jewelry.

It is reported that BIS had been receiving complaints for a long time regarding suspicious hallmarking and HUID (Hallmark Unique Identification) numbers being affixed to gold jewelry. Based on these complaints, officials conducted a sudden inspection and began examining the records.

BIS Official’s Statement

BIS officer Raman Kumar Trivedi stated that action was taken based on complaints. Some materials and records have been seized for investigation. Currently, the matter is under investigation, and the next steps will be clarified only after the report is received.

“We are going to Jaipur. After consulting with senior officials, we will issue a press release.”
Previous Actions and This Time’s Seizures

According to local traders, the concerned hallmarking center had been inspected and faced action in the past as well. However, this operation is reported to be more extensive than previous ones. During the inspection, the team seized some gold jewelry along with certain machines and equipment used in the hallmarking process. The seized materials will be sent for further technical examination.

Concern Among Traders

Traders whose jewelry was deposited at the center for hallmarking were seen gathering information about their goods after the operation. Many traders expressed that they might face difficulties in delivering to customers until the investigation is complete. Trader Arjun Soni reported that he had given some gold jewelry to the center for hallmarking for his customer, which the inspection team took away. According to him, these ornaments were supposed to be handed over to the customer the next day, but the delivery will now be delayed due to the action.
