【Santa Monica】David Tishbi Jewelry Marks One Year in Temporary Postfire Location

**Editor’s Note:** One year after the Palisades Fire destroyed their original storefront, David and Holly Tishbi mark the anniversary of their reopened jewelry shop on Santa Monica’s Montana Avenue, celebrating renewed community connections amid the ongoing challenges of rebuilding.

Following the destruction of the original David Tishbi Jewelry storefront on Via de la Paz during the Palisades Fire, David and Holly Tishbi are celebrating the first anniversary of their reopened location at 632 Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

“It’s a great meeting place for people in all of L.A. to come, and it’s a popular street, so it’s been great,” Holly Tishbi said. “We’re getting acquainted with a lot of our Palisades and surrounding area customers, which has been amazing.”

Navigating the challenges of rebuilding a business from the ground up in the wake of the fire is a brutal reality faced by many local merchants. Holly Tishbi noted that David Tishbi Jewelry has been fortunate to receive an excellent response from both returning and new clientele at the Santa Monica location.

“Business is great. We can always use more, but we’re very satisfied with how it’s progressing,” she said.

David Tishbi opened the business in Pacific Palisades in 1998. A Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), he draws design inspiration from art and the natural world. While it was never his intention to leave the Palisades, the new space has brought unexpected silver linings.

“We never wanted to leave the Palisades, but now that we were forced into that, we have a very nice new space which our old customers are happy to come to,” David Tishbi said. “We are getting a lot of new people that never knew about us because we are in Santa Monica. It turned out to be great for us.”

The relocation, however, is temporary, according to Holly Tishbi, who explained that the couple is monitoring the commercial district rebuild in Pacific Palisades and plans to bring the business back to the community. The fire was doubly devastating for the Tishbis, claiming not only their business storefront but their home as well.

“Our vision is to always be there,” Holly Tishbi said. “Being that we’re big on community, we are waiting for the owners of the different buildings to decide what they’re doing and see what comes of it. We’re going day by day.”

David Tishbi noted that the Montana Avenue storefront is larger, more secure and offers greater privacy for clients, all while maintaining the full suite of services previously offered on Via de la Paz. The shop continues to provide custom designs, jewelry repairs and ear piercings.

It has also expanded its repertoire. Following the fire, many local clients reached out to the Tishbis for assistance in replacing valuables, particularly fine watches. The shop began offering timepiece replacement services as a direct way to give back to displaced neighbors.

“We didn’t really deal with watches in the Palisades, but since the fire, a lot of people lost their things,” David Tishbi said. “We got a lot of requests from people looking to replace their timepieces, so we started offering that to be a good resource.”

For Holly Tishbi, reopening the business has played a fundamental role in the emotional healing process following the disaster.

“The trust and familiarity we have with the people we see helps our healing, helps our connection and helps our community outreach,” she said. “It gives us a sense of a home away from home, so we still feel connected.”
