50 Years of ‘Uhren Schmuck Mayer’: After Lothar Mayer, Daughter Susanne Now Leads the Business
Schönau am Königssee – The story of ‘Uhren Schmuck Mayer’ began in the late 1950s, when young watchmaker Lothar Mayer arrived in Berchtesgaden and initially worked at Guttmann. After passing the master watchmaker exam, he took the step into self-employment in 1976 in Bischofswiesen with ‘Uhren Schmuck Mayer’. Initially, the focus was on trophies and pewter, along with a fine selection of watches and jewelry.
In 1987, current owner Susanne began her apprenticeship in her father’s business, having helped him since childhood.
“I learned a lot and still work today with tools from my father’s workbench – living history in daily use,” says the owner, who moved her business from Bischofswiesen to Schönau am Königssee in 2009, marking its 50th anniversary.
