The world-famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee has taken a major step towards making the inspection of gold and silver jewelry received as donations completely transparent.
Now, a state-of-the-art carat meter machine, ‘XRF’ (X-Ray Fluorescence), will be used to test the purity of precious jewelry coming to the temple.
With this machine, the quality and carat of gold and silver received as donations can be determined within just a few minutes.
Mahakal Temple’s Deputy Administrator and Deputy Collector Simmi Yadav informed that the temple management committee has procured this state-of-the-art carat meter machine from Maharashtra at a cost of approximately ₹15 lakh through CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) fund.
The machine has already reached the temple premises and its operation will start from Monday after completing the necessary preparations.
She mentioned that with this initiative, Mahakal Temple will join the select group of temples in the country where modern technology is being used for testing precious jewelry received as donations.
The biggest feature of the carat meter machine is that it provides accurate information about the purity, carat, and quantity of other metals present in any gold or silver jewelry without cutting, rubbing, or melting it.
According to the temple administration, now whenever devotees donate gold-silver jewelry, their testing will be done in front of the donor itself.
This will make the donation process completely transparent, and the information recorded in the temple’s records will also be completely authentic.
Until now, three receipts were made for gold and silver jewelry received as donations. The jewelry was kept safe in the temple treasury along with one receipt.
After this, the temple’s authorized three-member goldsmith committee would examine the jewelry and determine whether the donated metal was pure gold or silver or not.
The entire process was conducted under CCTV camera surveillance and in the presence of Deputy Collector-level officers.
An air-conditioned room is being prepared for the carat meter machine in the temple premises. It is expected that this room will also be ready by Monday. After this, the machine will start operating regularly.
