A high-tech XRF machine worth 1.5 million rupees has been installed at the world-famous Mahakal Temple in Ujjain to enhance transparency in donations. It can determine the purity of gold and silver in just 5 minutes. Let’s learn all about it.
The testing process for valuable jewelry donated by devotees at the world-famous Jyotirlinga Mahakal Temple is now being made completely transparent and state-of-the-art. The temple management committee has taken a major step to check the purity of gold and silver jewelry received as donations. Now, an advanced carat meter machine, the XRF (X-ray fluorescence), will be used for this task. This machine will provide accurate information about the quality, carat, and other metals present in donated gold and silver within just five minutes, bringing unprecedented transparency to the entire process.
The Mahakal Temple Management Committee has procured this advanced carat meter machine through CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds. Temple Deputy Administrator and Deputy Collector Simmi Yadav said that the machine, costing about 1.5 million rupees, has been brought from Maharashtra. The machine has arrived at the temple premises, and after installation and necessary preparations, its formal operation will begin from Monday. With this initiative, Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple will become one of the leading temples in the country using modern scientific technology to test valuable donated jewelry, further deepening the faith of devotees.
The biggest and most important feature of this carat meter machine is that it can test the purity of any gold or silver jewelry without cutting, rubbing, or melting it. This technology provides accurate information about purity, carat, and the quantity of other metals present in the jewelry without causing any damage. The temple administration has also ensured that from now on, any devotee donating gold or silver jewelry will have it tested in their presence. This step will make the donation process completely transparent, and the information recorded in the temple’s official records will remain fully authentic and reliable, eliminating any scope for doubt.
Until now, the testing of gold and silver jewelry donated at Mahakal Temple was done differently. Previously, three receipts were made for these jewelry items, and with one receipt, the jewelry was kept safe in the temple’s treasury. Then, the temple’s authorized three-member jeweler committee would physically inspect the jewelry and decide whether the donated metal was pure gold or silver. This entire process was conducted under strict CCTV surveillance and in the presence of deputy collector-level officers to maintain transparency, but it was time-consuming and relied on human assessment.
With the arrival of the new machine, this entire process will become much more efficient and faster. A special air-conditioned room is being prepared for the operation of the carat meter machine in the temple premises. It is likely that this room will be fully ready by Monday, after which the machine will start its regular work. Deputy Administrator Simmi Yadav said that with the help of the machine, the purity, carat, and other metals in gold and silver can now be accurately tested within just five minutes. She emphasized that this will significantly increase both transparency and reliability in the donation process, and completely eliminate any possibility of irregularities in the future, further strengthening the trust between the temple management and devotees.
